The Mold, Mildew and Algae Problem

CWP ProSeries™ cleaner are the last cleaners you will ever need to mold, mildew and algae removal.

The growth of algae, mold, mildew and other fungi on a substrate is unattractive. It often leads to discoloration and deterioration of the substrate. We will take a brief look at the problem and discuss how CWP ProSeries™ cleaners help resolve the problem.

Algae are plants that live produce the food.  Generally harmless, they are a breeding ground for mold, mildew and other fungi.  Fungi are not plants and can’t make their own food. Therefore, they feed on nutrients from the surface they’re on. As a result, fungi will break down substrates, like concrete, mortar and brick.

While removal of mold visible on buildings and surfaces helps, the problem is bigger than that. Mold, mildew and other fungi reproduce by releasing spores which are invisible to the naked eye. They are a big source of allergies. These spores can remain long after the actual mold growth is removed. They can survive without water, many cleaners and can hide in deep crevices in concrete, brick and wood. If the spores survive, the problem will reoccur.

CWP ProSeries™ Clean Where Others Fail

CWP ProSeries™ cleaners take a targeted approach to algae, mold, mildew and other fungi.  First, our cleaners are designed to penetrate deep into the contaminant breaking down the molecular structure of the contaminant. Next, our proprietary mode-of-action, penetrate deep into the substrate, breaking the bonds holding the contaminant and spores to the substrate. Finally, our cleaners render the contaminant water soluble so that it can be easily rinsed with plain water.

Tips for Removing Really Bad Mold & Algae

Tips for removing tough Mold, Mildew and Algae.

  1. Make sure the surface you’re working on is not hot. Heat will evaporate the cleaner prematurely preventing deep penetration. It helps to rinse hot surfaces with water to cool them first.
  2. On porous surface like concrete masonry, lightly wet the surface with water before applying cleaner. This will help with the penetration of the cleaner into the contamination and substrate.
  3. Apply cleaner to only so much area as you are able to clean in several minutes. Should the cleaner dry on a surface, re-wet the surface with additional cleaner or light spray of water before continuing.
  4. After application of cleaner, let it work for several minutes before rinsing.
  5. If growth is heavy, use a brush or pressure washer to remove heavy growth after initial application of the cleaner and repeat the cleaning process.
  6. If stains or discoloration remain after initial cleaning, repeat the process. You should wait to make this determination until the area completely dry. Prolonged contamination will dehydrate and harden over time and may need additional cleaning to rehydrate to permit the chemical reaction needed to effectively clean the stains.
